چکیده

Seven commercial hop (Humulus lupulus L.) oils originating from a selection of North American varieties (Amarillo, Azacca, Cascade, Centennial, Chinook, Saaz, and Ahhhroma) six homemade hydrodistilled the same pellets (except were compared. terpenes regarded as oil markers (i.e., α-pinene, β-pinene, β-myrcene, β-ocimene, limonene, β-caryophyllene, α-humulene) methyl heptanoate identified quantified by GC–MS GC-FID. The antioxidant potential samples was evaluated using electron paramagnetic resonance (EPR) spectroscopy, while their components’ antibacterial (against Aliivibrio fischeri) enzyme (α-glucosidase lipase) inhibition activities screened high-performance thin-layer chromatography (HPTLC)-based assays. A distinct feature five Saaz relatively high contents β-myrcene (between 4.21 6.40 µg mg−1 oil). Centennial had perceptibly higher β-caryophyllene than rest, most them Chinook) contained amounts α-humulene. Differences between terpene profiles suggested that derived cones in process different hydrodistillation. showed low potential, comparable to popular beers white wines. highest observed Ahhhroma oil, it very no Cascade oils. developed streamlined workflow, including parallel HPTLC-directed bioassays HPTLC—TLC–MS Interface—SPME–GC–MS, enabled identification dimyrcenes, β-farnesene, 2-methylbutyl isobutyrate anti-obesity compounds weak components.

Inhibitors of nitric oxide production from hops (Humulus lupulus L.).

Nitric oxide (NO) plays an important role in many inflammatory responses and is also involved in carcinogenesis. In the present study, we investigated the inhibitory effect of extracts from Humulus lupulus L. on both the production of NO and the expression of inducible NO synthase (iNOS) in mouse macrophage RAW 264.7 cells. The production of NO was induced by a combination of lipopolysaccharide...

New prenylchalcones from the hops of Humulus lupulus.

Two new prenylchalcones, xanthohumol C and D, together with two known prenylchalcone derivatives, xanthohumol (1) and 5''-(2''-hydroxyisopropyl)-dihydrofurano-[2'',3''-b]-4,4'-dihydroxy-6'-methoxy-chalcone (4) were isolated and identified from the hops of Humulus lupulus L. The structures of xanhohumol C and D were elucidated as 5''-hydroxy-6'',6''-dimethyl-dihydropyrano-[2'',3''-b]-4,4'-dihydr...

Anti-proliferative and apoptosis-inducing properties of Xanthohumol, a prenylated chalcone from hops (Humulus lupulus L.)

Xanthohumol (XN)* is a prenylated chalcone found at high concentrations in hop cones (Humulus lupulus L.). XN has been characterized as a promising cancer chemopreventive lead structure that acts via a broad spectrum of bioactivities. This chapter summarizes the anti-proliferative and apoptosis-inducing potential of XN and gives a detailed overview of underlying mechanisms and pathways targeted...
